Buying new and used vehicles

Do you know if your local dealer is giving the best discounts?

Companies that source their vehicles from a local dealership may be losing out on higher discounts that are available nationally. Even though new vehicle supply has been slowed by manufacturers’ reduced production and placing a price premium on unsold stock, large fleet discounts are still available in the wider market.

A franchised dealer has a responsibility to support a new vehicle regardless of where it was sourced, even though local dealerships will promote the benefits of their supplying and maintaining the vehicle. You can take advantage of this by sourcing nationally at higher discounts and still have the vehicle serviced locally, but you should also consider other servicing opportunities to reduce your overall fleet costs.

Here are some of the actions to consider to reduce your vehicle purchase costs:

  • Use a single supplier with national sourcing capability.
  • Think about nearly-new, or dealer ex-demonstrator vehicles, as these represent excellent value for money.
  • Look at high-discounted old specification models with manufacturer incentives.
  • Use a specialist to reduce the amount of time you and your drivers take in finding vehicles.
  • Dispose of your old vehicle by other methods rather than part-exchange.
